Western Bulldogs Heritage
Help us tell our club’s story!
Club history is a living thing, growing daily, match by match, milestone by milestone, season by season. Our club’s story is ever evolving and the telling of it is an ongoing, demanding but gratifying task.
In existence since 2005, the Western Bulldogs Heritage Group (WBHG), is a group of volunteers dedicated to the telling of that story to the widest audience possible, through displays, publications and events. The group is also tasked with the storing and preservation of the significant items of the club’s historical collection so that they can be shared with generations to come, well into the future.
A new dedicated museum space is eagerly awaited at Whitten Oval, for public display of more of the club’s treasured collection – including items from as long ago as the highly successful VFA days (1897–1924), when the Footscray Football Club won nine premierships and were ‘Champions of Victoria’; through the VFL/AFL Premiership success of 1954; the off-field victory of the Fightback of 1989; the establishment and success of our AFLW team; and the long-awaited success of the 2016 AFL Premiership; as well as everything in between. The members of the WBHG also see it as their duty to honour and celebrate the individuals who have played a part and the contributions they have made.
We welcome anyone who wishes to play a part by providing items of special club significance or historical interest for display in the museum or to add to the collection. Offers of financial assistance to aid with the purchase, storage, maintenance, repair and eventual display of collection items are also welcomed. A gift to the museum is a gift to the generations of Bulldog supporters to come.
All of us that are made of red, white and blue – Bulldogs through and through – have lived a part of the club story and are ourselves part of that story. It connects us all and it is about all of us! It is your story!
